This SE repair webpage includes info relevant to the SE/30, because they are identical except for logic card.
Description: Disinfectant 3.7.1 has been the standard and most often used virus detector for old Mac virus for many years. But it does not include all old Mac virus. This has caused many old Macs to be thrown out after their owners could not revive them with Disinfectant 3.7.1.
Repair: Virex 3.83 has been very successful at reviving those old Macs. Although the later and much larger versions of Virex will do the job, this Virex 3.83 is on a System 6.0.7 800K boot floppy.
Description: This common problem is not mentioned on the RMS webpage. It's usually caused by problems in the 4 pin connector (marked "P5" on the analog card) interface between the analog card and the CRT yoke. One or more pins in the analog card connector develop bad solder joints. A bad solder joint can cause excessive heating which causes heat corrosion in the associated pins within the 2 connectors. The heat corrosion will cause discoloration of the white connector shells.
- Verify that the lug of the black/white ground wire from the CRT neck video card is firmly screwed down.
If it is loose, tighten the screw and retest before doing following steps.
- On analog card, remove old solder from all 4 pin connections and resolder all 4 pins.
- If there is connector discoloration: Identify which pin pair is closest to discoloration. Scrape down the male pin with sharp pointed xacto knife blade. Use tweezers or needle nose pliars to compress the female pin so that has tighter grip on male pin.

REPLACEMENT TANTALUM CHIP CAPACITORS FOR THE SE/30
The original capacitors were aluminum can electrolytics.
The replacements suggested here are tantalum electrolytic chip capacitors, which are (1) more reliable, (2) easier to find, (3) easier to install, (4) more expensive.
The tantalum chip caps have polarity markings that are opposite to those on aluminum can electrolytics.
